Lake George Homes And Land

About Lake George

Northern vs. Southern Basins

The northern and southern parts of Lake George are very different and are like two different lakes.  The southern basin has more population, businesses and a longer season.   The northern basin is less accessible and generally takes 45 minutes or more to reach.  People come up later in the spring and go home earlier in the fall for that reason.  Each end of the lake has it’s own beauty and appeal, so in determining where you want to buy, you must consider what is important for you.

Southern Basin

From Lake George Village you take Route 9L and wind around the many bays that make up the south end of the lake, ending up at Pilot Knob Road.  There are four communities in the southern basin, each with it’s own charm.  The first is Dunhams Bay, then Assembly Point, Cleverdale and finally Rockhurst.  There are primarily private homes a few marinas and the Top o’ the World Golf and Condominium resort.  The golf course has just added nine holes, a bed & breakfast, restaurants and they are building new condominiums.  The well known Cleverdale Store serves the area with daily lunch specials, catering, gas and a liquor store. There are a number of public launch sites including Hall’s Marina.  This area of the lake is convenient to the Village of Glens Falls.

Lake George Village: Lake George Village like Bolton has not changed much over the years.  Main Street offers any type of food or souvenir you cold desire.  You can parasail, rent jet skis or boats, use the two public beaches, and grab a ride on one of the tour boats that operate out of the village.  There are car shows, craft fairs, motorcycle rallies, winter carnivals and more! You are also close to the Six Flags/The Great Escape Fun Park.  If you’re looking for activity and proximity, this is the place to be.

Bolton Landing: Bolton Landing is a small year-round community located ten miles north of Lake George Village on the west side of the lake.  Bolton has upscale gift shops, quaint restaurants, and is home to the famous Sagamore Hotel.  It is also home to the most popular eatery on the lake, The Algonquin.  The Sagamore has a beautiful golf course, cruise boat and fitness center that is open to the public.

Pilot Knob: Opposite Bolton Landing on the east side of the lake is Pilot Knob. The Pilot Knob road ends at camp Andrews Bay and also leads to the community of Huletts Landing.  Pilot Knob road runs for seven miles and is primarily private residences.  This location give you beautiful sunsets, close proximity to Vermont, hiking trails and the YMCA camp which offers children and adult sessions

Northern Basin

This is the area from the narrows of the lake to Ticonderoga.  The Northern Basin includes:

Hulett’s Landing:  This is a small community that is seasonal and is accessed through Whitehall, NY.  There is a marina with a store and gas, a nine hole chip & put golf course, and a public beach.  The closest shopping is White Hall, NY or Rutland, VT.  The road dead ends north of the marina, so you must return to Rt 22 to get to the next town.

Ticonderoga:  The lake flattens out and the bottom is sandy with level lake frontage. Ticonderoga is the northern most town and offers year round services.  It is also the site of historic Fort Ticonderoga.

Hague: Heading south from Ticonderoga on the western shore you reach Hague. This is the only major town before you reach Bolton Landing.  There is one restaurant called the “View”, but other than a few marinas it is primarily residential.
